I have a 1981 Hunter 30 tall rig. Last winter I received a new main sheet traveler from Garhauer (took forever!) and mounted it to the cap that covers the sliding companionway hatch cover. It an attempt to remount the cap with the traveler attached, I ran into a problem running new stainless screws into the deck. It seems there is metal below the surface. Since I misplaced the fasteners that were in the cap and at the end of the traveler, I don't know if they were machine screws into threaded metal imbedded in the deck, or just screws into fiberglass.

Does anyone have experience with this refitting?

Don't have your boat but mine has machine screws into a metal plate buried in the fiberglass. I would have a hard time believing that you would not have some sort of backing plate in any case so screws into fiberglass are a pretty unlikely solution.

Thanks Bill. That's what I figured. I will drill and tap the metal plate and see if I can get the machine screws to hold it down. I envisioned the whole hatch cover and traveler pulling off in a good blow!

Good to see another cherubini on lake mac. I sail out of lake ranch up by the state park on a 37 cutter. How long have you had your 30 ?
