I have a 1984 Javelin which has the main sheet run through blocks on the port and starboard aft part of the deck before it runs back to the boom and down to a jam cleat on the center board truck. One of the blocks on the deck was mangled. The manufacturer of this unique block, Schaefer Marine, no longer makes this block and D & R Marine does not have these. It is virtually impossible to jerry rig a substitute.
First: Is this unique block available anywhere?
Second: If I have to re-rig the main sheet to have it just between the boom and jam cleat on the center board trunk, can the trunk take the full force of the pull from the mainsail?

The 1984 JAVELIN would have been rigged with the mid-boom sheeting and a block on the end of the CB trunk originally as would all models built since 1974, so the CB trunk should certainly be strong enough. I'm not sure why a previous owner would have converted back to the older setup..... seems like a lot of work to do. At least if this was done, access to those aft blocks should be easier than if the setup was factory original, since there would need to be some form of access ports in the cockpit to get at the underside of the deck on each side to get to the nuts on the mounting bolts.
Perhaps a picture of the block would help, the ones I've seen weren't all that unique, and Schaefer and other manufacturers (Harken, Ronstan, Garhaurer) still make ones similar.

If you wish to go back to the way the 1984 JAVELIN was originally rigged, I've attached a pic of how it would look (from a 1975 DS II) as weel as one of a 1974 JAVELIN.

O'day Javelin Boom Vang?

Hello everyone,

I've just purchased a 1985 O'day Javelin--and the boom vang set up has me a bit perplexed. On the boom, where I would expect the boom vang plate, there is a cleat--and it's on the side of the boom, not the bottom. Can a boom vang be used with just a cleat?

Many thanks!
JC

PS To the Javelin owner who posted a photo of his mainsheet rigging for another poster, I thank you--it was enormously helpful to me, too.
