Main sheet winch

I would like to know the make, size, and if one or two speed main sheet winch for my '87 272.

John - I assume you're asking because you're not at the boat, right? Could be any one of a number. I think most 272's had Barlows or Barients, altough the one I looked at had Lewmars. I would expect them to be equivilant to a Lewmar 16 and to be two speed.Justin - O'day Owners' Web

All I have is the center post. The rest was missing when I bought the boat. Trying to bring life back to this boat.

272 Mainsheet Wench

John,My 1986 272 used a small Barlow single speed mounted on the starboard side of the cabin roof. I replaced it with a Lewmar this summer and the four mounting holes matched perfectly, so no hole patching and redrilling. I can get you the Lewmar winch size if you are looking for a new winch. I also still have my Barlow, it was rather stiff and greasing it did not solve the problem. It still works if you are looking for a usable original wench, I just wanted a smoother one since my wife handles the mainsheet and the main halyard when we sail.Frank
