This picture was taken on a 1989 30 hunter it is of the steel slid mechanism, that is loosened to remove the main from the mast. The screw that held the the slid in place, had to be cut in 1/2 half part in the mast the other I have. The reason I cut the screw was that it was thread into this small ring that would spin therefore I could not tighten the screw nor remove it. I was wondering if those of you who have dealt with this can tell me why the screw was not just thread into the mast and what purpose this ring has, is it suppose to spin freely please help I have been using duct tape to hold this in place so I can sail which is very discerning

I don't know why yours is that way, but mine uses a 4M screw . You can get the parts from http://www.rigrite.com/index.htm Dennis
