Main Sheet setup for Javelin

Is this the correct way to rig the main sheet for the Javelin?

Also, what are the cleats for just forward of each block and the cam cleats running along the transom top?

TIA,

John

I suspect that a previous owner may have set up an adjust able traveler across the transom and used those cam cleats to adjust the position of the mainsheet block on the traveler. But then the tails of the line would hang over the transom and outside the boat? (See below for a drawing that may explain what I refer to. It is for the Day Sailer, but the boats were more or less rigged the same.)
Anyway, the way that you set up the mainsheet is correct as far as the way O'DAY originally set it up. I'd go with that.
By the way, she looks GREAT!! Although I'd get rid of that cumbersome outboard bracket and just clamp the outboard to the transom as O'DAY intended, just my opinion.

Thanks to both of you for the response.
Any idea what these are for? I've seen them on other 1969 Javelins.

John, I saw those on your boat and was wondering myself what purpose they served. Possible they are attachment points for a lifting harness, for use with a typical Yacht Club small boat lift/crane. I see that they appear to be bolted thru the hull sides (like chainplates), but I can't imagine a JAVELIN with 2 sets of lower shrouds (class rig doesn't use any lowers). They appear to be more or less positioned at the balance point of the boat, might have allowed lifting and launching with a crane even with the mast stepped.
Maybe an inquiry to the Javelin Class Association would get you an answer. If you do get your answer from there, let us know, I'm curious....

John, there used to be a great web site for the Javelin Class Association, but... I can't find it either! I did find a YAHOO Group that is similar to the (general) O'DAY owners group on YAHOO, joining is simple and I have joined myself for the moment. I have been a member of that General O'DAY group there for several years, a great resource (or chance for me to be that great resource for others?)

Maybe someone there has a boat with those attachment points and could ID them?

I tried to open a yahoo account to get on but they wanted my phone number and I couldn't find a way around that.

John, I posted the question there myself..... see if I get any replies.
I suspect you could put in a "random number", but I'd hate to risk that!

John, I got a few replies, but these 2 agree with what I suggested (others thought shrouds chainplates or unknown):
"I am certain Dan Reiber would know. It seems they are for a lifting bridle to transfer the boat from the land to the lake and reverse. The boat’s center of gravity is located in the same area between the two fittings. There are chain plates on the inside with fasteners through the hull To support the weight. Each fitting only has to handle about 125 lbs., and am almost certain that when hiking out in a stiff breeze where the shroud is taught, there has to be more force exerted than 125 lbs. for a comparison." Bob Corpstein, J1952
And Dan Reibar agreed: " Bob’s description seems accurate to me." Dan Reiber

If I hear any more ideas, I'll let you know. However, it seems like the lifting bridle idea is leading!
