Does anyone know if it is possible to re-rig the main sheet arrangement on a Hunter 260 or 270 to get it out of the center of the cockpit? Or for that matter, can it be done on the new 25? Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks, Dave...

Mainsheet Rigging

Dave, I do a lot of singlehanding in my H260. The location of the mainsheet bale on the deck makes it very difficult to adjust the mainsheet from behind the wheel, especially in gusty conditions. I move the top of the mainsheet to the aft bale on the boom and attach the other end to the rudder post. Then it's easy to adjust during gusts. You have to duck during tacks but that is not a problem. I usually steer with one hand on the wheel and ease the mainsheet over with the other hand. Also added spinlocks and enough line to the jibsheets to be able to control the jib from behind the wheel. Can't remember the last time I used the winches. Now, I just attach the mainsheet to the rudder post. Two pictures at these links: http://kobernus.com/hunter260_web/upgrades/misc/target9.html http://kobernus.com/hunter260_web/upgrades/misc/target10.html No crew needed with this setup. questions send me an e-mail.

Hello George

I would have thought having the main sheet fixed to the stern may have meant that she would round up more easily?? Very interested to know how it does if at all effect performance.

Mark, I have found no difference in performance. It is easy to switch back and forth. My wife prefers the mainsheet on the deck because I can tend it for her. I prefer it tied to the rudder post because I can singlehand while she takes a nap.

Thanks and Traverse City

George, Thanks for that solution, and especially the pix. It is so simple and straightforward, which is probably why it didn't occur to me. BTW, how is the sailing around there? I have some relatives in Central Lake, but haven't been there in years. That whole area always struck me as a great place to sail (in the summer!). Dave...

George, Thanks for the photos. Looks like my impressions were right, it is a beautiful place to be on the water. One of those shots looks like you're in the Bahamas, which surprised me, but I guess shallow water and sandy bottom will give you that pale green water no matter where you are. Dave...
