Oday 19.2 Brant Lake
Hi,

I just bought a 1982 O'Day 192. My husband and I set it up for the first time yesterday. Does anyone have a picture of the "whole area" with the end of the boom, main sheet and back stay. Something just doesn't look right to us. There is a triangular metal plate with three holes. One of the holes is empty. It doesn't look like the end of the boom is going to clear the backstay (and didn't when a stiff breeze came along).

Thank you.

I take it that the previous owner has changed the main sheet attachment? Your boat came through with the Main sheet block and tackle hooked to that triangular plate on the back stay and the end of the boom. My 222 was also set up this way until I bought a traveler and placed it in front of the companionway. Your boom should clear the back stay though.

If your boom doesn't clear the backstay, I can think of three explanations: someone changed the configuration of your backstay by removing the boomkin (sort of a bowsprit for the transom) and affixing the backstay directly to the transom (highly unlikely since Oday never used boomkins); someone changed the boom (very possible); or, you have set up the boom too high so that it hits the backstay farther up, where there is less room. Can you set the boom so that it is lower?

Oday liked that triangular plate set up. The short piece of shroud attaches to the transom at one end and the plate at the other. The rest of the backstay attaches to the plate too. The third eye in the plate is where your mainsheet attaches. Check out the I Heart Odays website. I seem to recall that they have owner's manuals for sale; maybe they have the 192. This site used to have the "manual" for the 23 posted, but since they changed the format, I have no idea where to find it or if its still here.
