Main sail ?

I am sail shopping for a crusing main. I intend on doing some club racing. Which manufacture would you go with? Catalina direct seems to have the best price, I have a Quote from North that is considerly higher.Lookin for Feedback, Thank You Jimmy

Hey JimmDog,I've been looking into the same thing. I've really been curious about the actual quality of North sails. They are EVERYWHERE when it comes to racing, but they are so much more expensive. I don't want to pay for just the name. Are they really that much better? I'm not sure.I bought a new headsail from Doyle a few years back & I'm very happy with it. I sail at least 2 to 3 times per week during the summer & it's been holding up great. I went with the quicksilver bi-radial & it really holds a nice shape.As for the main, I do a little racing & I'm definitely going to go for a tri-radial cut. They hold their shape a little better and they can be re-stiched if they stretch. I'd be curious to know who has bought from Catalina Direct, too. I found there Phone # in sail mag and talked to the sails men that picked up the phone I cant think of his name. but he was great and I think he is the only one that picks up the phone there. It must be a small shop.After talking to him afew times he sold me a150% genny for my C 30 TR It was Roller reef with sail cover and fome luft it was a delux I think it was 1300 bucks all I could say Is wow! I payed half down and half when they shiped the sail to me.He called me to tell me they shiped my sail and he called me to see if I had gotten it, and he call to see how I liked it . I sliped it on my fuler and went sailing .wow it was great It was like pulling the ancor up for the first time.I bought a new full batten main with two reef points and a coustom cut to go above my doger and bimine and again it was awow .Ithink the main was 1350 bucks and It showed up in two weeks just like he said north sails sent me a quote for more then twice the money I dont think north sails can be that much better and I would rather by from a small shop www.national sail supply.com They did agreat job John Olson
