Hunter 23 WIll be at a Navy base
Does anyone have any pictures or anything that shows how to put the sail on a Zspar mast. I have it on but on the bow part of the boom I have it attached but I have a D link that I can not figure where it goes. I assume the stern portion of the sail attaches the thin cable to the topping lift. The stern end of the sail attaches to on of the lines that runs through the boom. I would a appreciate any one that has pictures. I should have taken some when I took it down.

can you take a phot of the D link and send it to me at davecondon@mindspring.com and I can advise. I will be gone for a couple of days but maybe if you look at the website for US Spars which is actually Zspar extrusions might help in the meantime.

If yours is similar to a 260 lets start with the d-ring (shackle) on the boom at the mast end (gooseneck). I think that shackle is to hold the bottom of the mainsail(Tack) to the gooseneck.

On the tail of the boom, there will be one of 3 lines exiting the boom that'll attach to the end of the main sail(clew) for outhaul. There should be another line exiting the boom that runs up to the topping lift. On mine there's a 3rd that I have run to the reefing point on the leech(but yours is probably different).

Here's a pic of the gooseneck showing the tack attachment on top and the 3 lines for sail adjustment underneath that run out toward the tail of the boom.

Hope that helps. Have a great season. Mike

What Mike described is how my 23 is rigged. Mainsail tack attaches to fore end of boom with shackle, after you slide the foot into the track. Clew is pulled rearwards with outhaul line. Depending on rig, other two lines in boom are for topping lift and aft reefing line. I can't do any pics for a few weeks.

Another view

Not sure if this is an improvement over soling42's photo. I had to expand and crop the original to see the gooseneck with any detail.

As he said, the bale of the shackle goes through the Kringle on the tack of the main (grommet hole in lower front of sail), and the pin goes in the un-threaded side of the shackle, through the hole in the gooseneck, and then screws into the other side of the shackle.

I didn't have a photo of the main clew, so I created a powerpoint for it. There are actually three slots in the end of the boom that guide and protect the lines. Use one for the main outhaul.

Here is the diagram from the manual... keep in mind that these boats have usually seen a few owner modifications over the years, so yours may have been changed from it's original configuration.

Cheers,
Brad

I also have the Zspar mast on my hunter 23. Does any one know the proper slug size for the luff and foot. I was also wondering is anyone has converted to a loose fit main? What hardware would anyone suggest for the outhaul?

Having an issue on a Cat 25, the foot comes outta the boom track. Any suggestions on how to keep it in the track? Any hardware I can slide in with the sail to keep it secured in the track?

It sounds like your bolt rope has lost its shape. I would replace it, or have a sail shop replace it.

Could be a loose footed main. If the sail is old the bolt rope may have become deteriorated. Otherwise, it was designed not to fit in the boom track but attach at the tack and clew only. This allows for better control of sail shape at the bottom 1/3 of the main.
