I had purchaced my boat last year and absolutly love it! The way it handles and accomidates the needs of my family has allowed us to spend a great deal of family time together. This forum has also given great advice to myself and others. Before I pose this question, I would like to thank all of you in advance for all the effort you put forth. It makes this site much like it makes those of us as sailors, a close knit group looking out for one another. Now my question, I have a full batten main that when properly hoisted allows the boom to travel across the cockpit 5.5 feet above the cockpit floor. (hitting the head of the unsuspecting guest if I am in error) I think that the previous owner may have purchased the sail so that increased power would be generated from the increased sail area. The other possibility may be that the mast is swept back to the degree that the end of the boom is lower than it should be. Any thoughts would be welcomed. Principal Interest

"Lowered the Boom" (gee I wanted to say that!)

I'm 6'2", and the boom on my 1984 h34, will just graze the top of my head. And the boom stops near the front of the cockpit, so it really isn't a problem. I doubt that the mast could be raked enough to lower boom. I think someone has "lowered the boom", perhaps replacing the original with a longer one. If you look at the mast where the boom attaches, can you see any evidence, (old holes, etc.) that it was once fastened higher on the mast? I'm going to my boat tomorrow and would gladly take any measurments that you might want, if it helps. Let me know. (
