Main Sail replacement

After 28 years the main sail on Abientot has finally given up with a
mighty rrrripping sound while my partner,"Jeff the Destroyer" was
trying for an extra tenth of a knot in force 5 conditions on Lake
Michigan. Repair is not feasible.

We would appreciate advise on any good/economical sources for
replacement. (I may be asking for mutually exclusive conditions)

If someone has a sail that is in good condition they wish to sell
would also consider that alternative.

Thanks,

John Maher

Hi John

The mainsail will cost between £400 - £550 depending on if you have fully
battened but I think it would be prohibitivr in the final price as the
carriage to the USA would be very expensive. I am sure there are sailmakers
locally to you who could provide a similar price sail? If yous till have
problems I will ocntcat the USA Vega Club and see what I can find out.

Kind Regards

Hi John,

I got my new main from North Sails. Made to order (The sailmaker came to the boat and took measurements) with "V star" logo and number, it was US$780. That may sem a bit much but I am very pleased with it in every regard.

Chuck, thanks for your advise -got a quote from UK Sails for $1360 so
your price looks pretty good by comparison. I've sent an inquiry to
North Sails.

I checked a mainsail I had made in the UK as baggage on a trip overthere,
and it was a LOT bigger sail than a Vega!! So, take a holiday and pick
up the sail on the return leg!!!!!!!!!
