A picture would help any people reading your post to offer better information. The good news is: If it already has a major hole you probably can't make it any worse!
Repair of fiberglas isn't too difficult with epoxy and fiberglas strips. Instructions are available in a booklet from West System. Fillers are available from West System or other manufacturers to fair the rough repair. I have not done too well with gel coat repair, so when I have repaired areas I tried to end my repair at a spot that would be logical to end a coat of paint. Nonskid material in the paint on areas where it is appropriate also helps cover and blend in the repair.
BTW: We owned an Oday 34 and loved that boat. Great for the Chesapeake Bay.
