Welcome Rosemary366,

A picture would help any people reading your post to offer better information. The good news is: If it already has a major hole you probably can't make it any worse!

Repair of fiberglas isn't too difficult with epoxy and fiberglas strips. Instructions are available in a booklet from West System. Fillers are available from West System or other manufacturers to fair the rough repair. I have not done too well with gel coat repair, so when I have repaired areas I tried to end my repair at a spot that would be logical to end a coat of paint. Nonskid material in the paint on areas where it is appropriate also helps cover and blend in the repair.

BTW: We owned an Oday 34 and loved that boat. Great for the Chesapeake Bay.

Best Wishes, Phil

Hello 31seahorse
Thank you for your response and will do as you suggested- a$5K quote sounded way too high for something I can do- appreciate your encouragement. Have a great day!
Cheers:D

The previous owner of my Oday 35 replaced the main hatch in the forward birth with a Bowmar hatch. It is very sturdy however the glass needs to be resealed. There are many hatch replacements advertised and you could check with D & R marine where many Oday parts are available. Rudy may be able to give you some advice as well.

What was in the hole? My boat had a very old and non-functioning solar vent in the fwd hatch and on request of the Mrs, I didn't replace it as the hatch is a nice seat. Instead I installed a homemade deadlight I made out of 1/4" polycarbonate. I understand acrylic should hold up better to UV but this is what I had and it's held up fine for 2 years.
