I have a 1988 Catalina 30 tall rig and am considering having a "FURLEX Main Furling and Reefing System" installed. This is an add-on to the existing mast. Does anyone have any experience with this system?

I would want my battens

Jesse, I have been on several boats with in mast furling, and one with the add-on style and the work wonderfully. The ability to control the amount of sail almost infinitely is fantastic and allows you to optomize headsail/mainsail balance so little rudder is needed to avoid heading up. I would, however, check out the in boom systems. In mast means no battens which in turn means no roach and more sail stress (or so I am told by a local loft; I have no personal empirical data). main furler

I have an in mast furler system on my 380 Catalina..I really like it. The cost of it is too expensive to retro. fit. ($20,000) the system that you are talking is a great way to go. If it screws up it can easily be fixed since its outside the mast. The best system is the in boom furler...You can have battens with that system...good luck
