Magnetic deviation with compass

Loudspeakers are like SUVs....

.... everybody likes 'em.

How come nobody brought up loudspeakers?

I tried a push-to-talk loudhailer mic near my helm and the Wheems and C. Plath Venus went ballistic! Had to get it about five feet away before the deviation wasn't a significant factor - and this was with it not even connected! Those little permanent magnets are killers, or could be.

Hate to think what a couple 20-oz Hi-Fi speakers would do.

Oh, and watch out for your belt buckle.

Magnetic compasses by their very nature are very sensitive. If they are/were you only means of determining direction we would be much more conscientious about how we treated it.

In the days of Columbus keeping time and keeping the compass were of primary importance. Forgetting to turn the glass or putting your knife near the compass were serious offences
