All, Can anyone give instructions as to how to extend the tongue of my trailer? I have an H260 and I read inthe manual that the tongue of the trailer can be extended to make it go farther into the water. There is a pin that can be removed but I could not get the tongue to extend. I know I'm not doing something right but can't figure out what it is. Any ideas?

Loosen the bow winch

Make sure the pin is pulled and then uncrank the winch a couple of turns. This will un bind the frame & the extension should be able to be pulled out by hand. Also, make sure your wires are free to move & not tied off to the ladder.

Unweight the Tongue

When extending my trailer tongue, I had to unweight the tongue by supporting the trailer just behind where the extension terminates. Then crank up your tongue jack and the extension should pull right out. The problem I had was binding due to the weight on the tongue. You can imagine how much of a bending load that puts on the extension.

2 person process

I simply stuck a chock in front of one of the trailer wheels, then had the driver (window rolled down so I can yell instructions) creep forward a bit. First thing was to take the pinch off the pin that holds the extension in place, then slowly slide forward until the extended hole lines up. Same thing could be done single-handed, but it would be a royal pain jumping in and out of the vehicle. Don't know about different trailers, but on mine, the winch, ladder, and everything connected to the boat is all on the part of the trailer attached to the wheels, not the tongue extension.

I lower the wheel strut to take the bow out of the tongue when pulling it out. Remember to retract it! before moving the boat.

similar problems

I have a 240 that had similar problems. the factory recommends that you unhitch and manually pull it out and then do the same after loading the boat. That would not work. Mine will not move by hand. I take the pin out, put a big chock in front of the tire and drive. When it stops, i have gone as far as it will go. Put the pin back and launch. Before you leave the lake, just chock the back side, pull the pin and drive back. When it goes thud, put the pin back in and you are done. don't forget your chock. I had to replace the pin on my trailer because the one they supplied was the same size as the hole and would not come out without some persuasion. Also, the socket on the trailer was welded too high and without lifting the bar with a jack and using a big hammer, it would not go in. Always caused a lot of bad words. I finally took my sawzall and cut it OFF. And I haven't missed it at all.
