My father an avid sailor recently passed away and has left me his MacGregor Venture 23". I am not a sailor and would like to sell this boat w/trailer. Can anyone help me with resources for selling and value information? Thanks!

That is a great boat

Kathleen, The Venture by MacGregor is a great boat. We just purchased our second one. We sold our first one for $3,200. It was in pretty good shape. If yours is in good shape, you should be able to get somewhere around $3,000 for it. Your best bet would be to get someone from around there who is familiar with sailboats to look at it. You do not need a full marine survey. Just the basics. General condition of the boat, sails, rigging, etc. If everything, including the trailer, is in good shape, then you can probably expect around 3k for it. If there are problems, then you have to go from there. Remember, this is not a fast, racing boat. This boat is for people who are attracted to the traditional lines and the cutter rig (two headsails). Be patient and good luck. If you want to see ours, then click on the link. Look at the Kellybelle, and then the new project boat link.

Value of the 23

I purchased my 23 in 1999. The boat was just painted and came with a new 9 hp motor. One set of sails and basic running rig. The seats are in excellent condition, the teak needed work. The trailer did not have wiring and the tires were badly worn. The past owner listed the boat for $6,500. I was able to pick it up for $4,300.I spoke with the original owner that bought the boat in 1976 for $4,500. He sold the boat in 1984 for $5,200.
