I'm picking up a 1978 Macgregor Venture 222 & won't see it or its owner's manual until I drive out there. Can anyone give me an idea of the tongue and tow weights of this boat?

I'll be pulling her with a Ford Ranger 2WD V6.

Thanks,

I don't have the specifications you are looking for, but I can share by experiences. I had a V21 with a non-OEM trailer that was heavy. I pulled it a couple of times with a Bronco II with a V6. It had adequate power in Iowa, however I soon figured out that short wheelbase vehicles weren't very stable. I never towed over 55 because of trailer wag. I try to maintain about 100 lbs of tongue weight for my V25 with a 2WD F150. Pulled in north to Lake Superior last year with no problem. How far you pull the boat and the terrain will make a difference. I've know a couple of people that have pulled with a rear wheel drive sedan. Good luck.

Per the sales brochure the 22 weighs about 1800 pounds. So loaded with the trailer it probably is over a 2500 to 2800 pounds.

I have pulled my V-21 for years with rear drive vehicles. When I got it I had a 1968 Skylark convertible. Today I have a 2005 Astro van. Loaded with camping gear and other things it probably come close to weighing 2000 pounds.

I always try to have about 200 pounds or 10% of the trailer weigh on the hitch. I have never had any significant problem of towing the boat. Lost a trailer wheel once but managed to keep the greasy side down and got every thing stopped and off the road. Of course my wife had to put out the grass fire.
