If it came with the boat... call customer service at the Macgregor Factory. If it's an aftermarket device (or no one answers the phone)... show us a picture, or describe it... there are many types of mast raising devices.
...now that we have a furler I just tie it up on the gin pole near the top of it while the mast is down. Then as the mast is raised the furler is taken forward by the jin pole and isn't dragging on the deck. The picture above was taken pre-furler.
The M and maybe the X factory system have a winch on the mast raising pole and that pole doesn't move as you crank the mast up. I would think then since you are raising the mast from a forward postion on the bow you could maybe hold the furler off the deck in one hand and crank the mast up with the other.
