the mac 26d is a water ballasted with a dagger board, supposedly the fastest model.

The 26M is also a daggerboard

while the 26X has a swing keel. Both have water ballast and can handle a 50HP outboard. The M is the newest model and has a few additional "improvements" like a rotating mast. We loved our X but needed a bigger boat for longer stays aboard. I wish I could trailer the new boat!

I recently purchased a 26c, which stands for classic? It comes with a swing centerboard. My guess is some of the numbers have to do with year of production - but I am not sure. I would be interested in hearing about the differences as well - you can find info on the X and M models on MacGregor's web site. Cheers - Rick

Just a quick note: It is my understanding that the factory designated the Original 26 as a "C". Owners have made a rather unofficial sub designation within that framework by designating "D" for daggerboard and "S" for swingkeel. Within the Hull ID, the first three letters are the manufacturer, eg: MAC. The next letter indicates model (the 26C/D/S is a "W" model. The next four digits indicate hull#. The next two integers are the month of manufacture (A-L= Jan. thru Sept. are followed by the last number of the year of manufacture) The last two integers are the last two numbers of the year of manufacture, eg. 87 through 95.
