I need a trailer for my 25. I am thinking of buying a used boat trailer and setting it up for my 25. Does anyone know of a source for the dimensions of a Mac 25 trailer, such as bunk width and length, distance of bow stop to axle, height difference between bunk and keel stop. Thanks

Rick,

Mac 25s are real common trailor sailors. Head down to the marina with a camera, a tape measure and a sketch pad. There is bound to be one that you can check out and the owner would probably be proud to give you a hand. That's what I did, less the proud owner. Worked great .

One thing about the MacGregor trailer. You don't want to copy it exactly!
I'd look for something beefier to build on.
Just a note: When I was looking for my first Mac I looked at 3 different Mac 25s. All of them had stress marks inside the hull ware the front bunk met the hull. I don't know why they had marks there. My guess would be that they weren't loaded properly at one time or another and trailered that way.
I just mention that because you have a chance to build something that will take the weight of the hull a bit better than the stock trailer.

I don't know what it is like in Lake Winnisquam but on the west coast you can find Mac trailer on Craigslist frequently for about $600 - '$800.

One reason might be that they were on the wrong trailer. Mine is still on the original trailer and unlike the later boats the bunks run fore to aft, not side to side. The trailer is still a piece of junk though. Would be pretty easy to take a tandem axle powerboat trailer and modify it and have something a heck of a lot better.

If you can hold out until Fall, I typically see a lot of junk boats on Craigslist listed for a few hundred dollars.... they have been sitting in someones yard for years and they finally just want it gone...and often they are sitting on a decent trailer that just needs a light kit and new tires.

I picked up a very beefy dual axle trailer with a junk boat for $500, stripped the boat of all useful hardware and then sold the hull as a project for $100. I now have a Rhodes 22 sailboat on that trailer. A local welding shop can help you put tangs on it to attach the bunks and that will cost you less than $100.

Something to consider.... I don't know if this is true where you live or not but.... in Virginia, a dual axle trailer needs an annual inspection (PITA) and it must have breaks.... not true for a single axle trailer. The Rhodes is a 4000# displacement boat so I'm glad to have the breaks.... but you may have a different calculus for a Mac 25. The Mac 25 has a real keel (not water ballast like the 26C) so you may also like the security of breaks....????
