I help operate a small, not for profit, sailing association in West Virginia that specializes in sailing education for local children and adults. We have been given a MacGregor 25 by another sailing association. Unfortunatley this boat has no mainsail. Does anyone know the proper dimensions for a mailsail on this boat? Also, has anyone had any experience in trying to find a used sail like this? Thanks.

Depending where I look, I see different values for the M25. My boom is 10'6" end to end, and giving room for the outhaul to work, I doubt you'd want a foot longer than 10'2". The number I usually see for the Luff is 24'8". I checked and my mast is over 25' (taped the end of the halyard to a tape measure, and hauled it up.). To ensure there is enough distance from the top of the mast to the top of sail so that the sail can be fully raised, I'd stick with the 24'8" figure. I don't know how much the leech length impacts things.

Contact North or Hood Sails. Tell them what you have going on and I'll bet they can hook you up with sail at a bargain.

I wish I had seen this, I have two Mac main sails. One needs a new headboard, the other is pretty nice all together. I just dropped one off at a consignment store in Annapolis. The one that needs the headboard is still folded up on the Mac. I changed my mast so I am looking for a home for them. They are for a Mac 26 (s)

I just bought a new main and jib

hi :

My main sail got ripped (it is 24 years old) it seems repairable but would like to buy a newer and more reliable one. How old is it, conditions and price.

Best regards

Here is the listing at the shop I dropped one off. If I go to recover it before 90 days, I have to pay them the inspection fee of 32.50.

http://baconsails.com/search/boatsp...i=22.00&boat_j=9.67&boat_p=25.17&boat_e=10.25

I believe it's the first listing on the page. You can call them if you have questions at tel:410-263-4880

The listing they posted says...

Catalog Number: 59-BADJ-102 Luff: 24' 4" Leach: 26' 5" Foot: 9' 6" Head: 0' 0" Price: $325.00
MAIN 5.5 oz DACRON BY UK. 5/16" COVERED ROPE LUFF & FOOT. LEECH LINE. REEF UP 6' 10". UNRECOGNIZED PAINTED INSIGNIA. TAKES THREE STANDARD BATTENS - NOT INCLUDED. MINOR STAIN/SOIL. VERY GOOD. YELLOW BAG. 9 lbs.

I don't have the batons. The unrecognized insignia is the M26. The headboard and reefing grommets have a little corrosion but still solid.. I also have a second sail, identical that needs a new headboard. It's got a couple years left and is crispy yet. I'd let that go for 125 and if I have to get the other one it would be 235. I have no idea what it would cost to ship.

By the way, I have a Mac 26s boom if anyone needs it, otherwise it's getting sent to the metal recycler. The mast is bent that went with that boom so it's going to get cut up and recycled.
