Macerator tripping breaker

The macerator was tripping the breaker on my H290. It would run then trip, run then trip...and like an idiot I kept doing this until the macerator stopped running.

Will an old and failing macerator trip the breaker or does is sound like another issue?

Assuming you don't have an intermittent short in the wiring, my guess is that the macerator plate corroded overloading the circuit because it won't turn thereby tripping the breaker; a not uncommon problem when the macerator is used infrequently and stagnant liquid remains to eat away the plate. Only one way to find out for sure.

Sounds like you have a clog. Paper or other items are not allowing the motor to turn freely. It's a dirty job but the clog needs to be removed and the impeller cleaned. Remeber the old maxim, "Do not put anything down the head that you have not eaten first"

Adam:

There is a screw on the top of many macerators. Take a screw driver and turn the impeller manually. Then reset the breaker. It may take a couple of tries, but it should restart and work fine after that.

I Had The Same Problem. It Was Fixed Easily By Adding Head Lube To The Head. The Problem Was The Motor Overheating Due To The Impeller Being Too Dry.

You and Benny are wrongly assuming he's asking about a toilet

The macerator pump in question is a pump to dump a holding tank at sea...it has nothing to do with the toilet. So unless something that shouldn't have been flushed made it all the way through to the holding tank (it does happen!), a clog is unlikely...and it's equally unlikely that lubing the toilet would free up an impeller in a pump in the tank discharge line.

It can be useful to read replies that have already been posted before jumping into a thread.

Thanks for all your replies, I plan to investigate and resolve the issue this weekend. Thanks Peggy for the PDF from Jabsco, this will help.
To confirm, this is the macerator for dumping and I don't use it very frequent- maybe 6 times a year (we have a pump-out station in marina)
