Peggy, I am looking for your opinion on macerator pump models/brands. I am considering a Jabsco 18590 12V pump and a similiar Shurflo model. On the WestMarine site the Jabsco pump was pretty much panned but it is stocked locally by some stores I trust which makes me wonder if it really is a bad pump or if it was an issue of use etc by those that rated it poorly. Any assistance is appreciated! David

I wouldn't go with either one

Instead, I'd go with an electric diaphragm pump...a bit more expensive to buy, but can run dry without harm and no impellers to fail. The SeaLand T-Series pump is the pick of the litter.

What about the Flojet?

I just installed their freshwater system pump and am very pleased with it. I see that they also make a macerator pump and was considering installing one.

FloJet/Jabsco macerator seem to be same pump

the FloJet macerator is a new pump...I wasn't familiar with it, so I Googled "flojet"...and found that FloJet is owned by the same company that owns Jabsco--ITT industries. Went there...clicked on FloJet...then worked my way to macerator pump...clicked on "Technical Data"...and got the manual (or what passes for one) for the Jabsco macerator pump. The part number for both pumps are also the same. If they aren't the same pump, the ITT site is messed up. Also found it interesting that they don't even show it with the Flojet brand name under marine pumps, only under RV. I then tried Googling "flojet macerator pump" and found only RV stores and a couple of RV discussion sites. Y'all Google and see if you come up with anything different.
