I have a new problem with my macerator pump. When I switch it on, I do not hear anything and it immediately draws 55 amps according to my link 10. With these symptoms, is it clogged or burnt out? If clogged, what is the fix? Thanks for your responses! Steve

It sounds like it is jammed or frozen

55A draw is probably the "locked rotor" value. You will burn out the motor if you repeat this action. I would remove the unit, put it on a bench and disassemble. My guess is that you will find something jammed in the pump or the impeller is seized to the pump chamber. The rebuild is not difficult, and the parts are readily available. You can buy a complete rebuild kit for about $45 or only the parts that you need separately. I buy from go2marine for great prices on repair parts. See the attached link.

This should help

It's the instruction sheet for the macerator (beginning to see why you should keep this stuff instead of tossing it???). http://www.jabsco.com/prodInfo/overview/18590_MACERATOR.PDF If you can hear the motor humming, it's not burnt out. If you can't hear it, the macerator is toast...time for a new one. If the macerator hasn't been used in a while, the impeller is prob'ly stuck to the inside of the housing...it can't spin, which is making your motor work overtime. You'll see instructions for freeing it without removing it from the boat in the instructions. Since all that straining is likely to crack an impeller vane, I strongly recommend that, IF you can get it working, you replace the impeller.
