Last week on a trip we tried to run the Macerator - it ran for about 5 sec then stopped. Now will not run at all - except for last eve. I tried it again and it ran for a few secs. then stopped. Anyone else experienced this problem? Oh one more thing the wires felt hot??? Thanks

The motor is overheating,

which is why it shuts down. The most likely caused is a jammed impeller. If that's what it is, don't just free it up, replace the impeller...overheating has damaged it. If that's not it, replace the macerator.

Had same problem

A crew member was trying to help during an offshore passage by emptying the holding tank for me. After running the pump for 20 seconds was wondering why the level had not dropped. The pump doesn't work very well when the THRU HULL IS CLOSED!!! Luckily the hose did not burst but it really trashed the impeller. After displaying my irritation (in a non threating manner) I had to devise a way to fix this as a replacement impeller was not available. Ended up reversing the impeller. Got us thru the trip, but every time before hitting the switch I had to free up the impeller manually. On the motor end the shaft extends past the housing and has a slot where it can be manually turned with a screwdriver. This will free it up and provide a temporary fix until you can replace the impeller. Scott 83-H34-188 Island Hops
