macerator magic

The macerators obviously need to be switched on to supply power, but what else switches them on to run? Neither of mine are operational and I am just starting to do the troubleshooting including finding where they are mounted and figuring out how they are supposed to work. I expect the motors are not set up to run whenever they are switched on at the power panel as that would require anyone using the head to turn them on and off and reason would suggest the off would be remembered far less than the on.

Unless your boat is set up with a Jabsco electric toilet, the macerator switches at the panel macerate the contents of your waste tanks and pump it in the water. Flipping the switch at the panel should turn on the pump.

If you have the Jabsco electric head, which has a macerator in the toilet assembly, there should be a momentary switch installed in sink cabinet, by the toilet. It has a black rubber cover over it.

Unless, of course, I have completely misunderstood your questions, which seems to be happening more and more lately... :)

the boat is new to me and it appears that the heads were replaced with vacuflush and the manuals on board were jabasco. I will look to see if there is a switch, thanks.

There should be a on/off Macerator switch and should be just below it is the toggle switch to pump over board from the holding tank if that is what you are talking about and also a thu hull needs to be opened before any pumping is done over board.
I think the vacu flush sends to the holding tank and than the macerator will pump over board or you pump out the holding at a Marina pump out or a pump out boat.

On my 410 you have to shut the breakers on the Main DC panel AND THEN push and hold the button on the tank level panel to run the pump. All the breaker does is supply power to the push button.

Ditto for mine (420), you can see the indicator level drop if it is working correctly. I did discover that if I leave the aft tank thru hull discharge open, the tank will fill with sea water. I opened it to clean growth from it below while at anchor, and neglected to shut it right away. Won't make that mistake again.

Re: Macerator

I found the switches and they are mounted right below the breaker panel (not exactly where I was looking for them), I was curious if there actually was an overboard discharge Y valve, the concern now is that it be secured for inshore compliance. There are a fair number of little issues to make right one of them is that the tank monitor system an Ultra Eight was disconnected and I get to figure out why it was disconnected. The previous owner is in declining health so that source of information is not available.

probably doesn't have a Wye valve (only the non US boats have those)

All the waste goes to the hold tank all the time. The pump does have a discharge hull valve though that you can lock.

I thought that might be the case, my previous boats have not been complicated so there are a number of systems to learn, thanks.
