I'm considering purchasing a Mac 26x and would like to know the different features between the model years 1998-2001. I understand that the later models have some significant changes including metal cleats instead of plastic ones and a ladder in the companionway versus a step. What are the other differences between these model years?

steering system

I belive the steering system improvement is the big one. The new rack and pinion system is much stronger than the old set up. This was introduced on the 2000 model. The Macgregor 26 home page has all the info.

Havencraft

Hi Mark, Check out the Havencraft site, they have a list of updates to the mac as well as standard and optional equipment. Also a great place to pick up parts and accessories. http://www.macgregor-yachts.com/ The new model is worth the price dif. Best of luck, K Barry
