The roller on my starboard pulley is shot, since that looks like an essential part of the main sheet system, I'd say it's critical. I notice that the pulley has a spring at the base and it is permanently mounted. I'm figuring there is a backing plate way up under near the transom which means I would have a hard time backing up the nuts on the bottom with a wrench. I'm assuming the spring that is in place is critical to the operation of the pulley as well. What about attaching another block to the "dead" pulley, or would that change the geometry to a point it would be useless or un-safe. I also noticed the roller on the port side roller/clamp is starting to oxidize so that will require replacement at some point. Any tips/tricks? Thanks, Colin

Main Sheet Anchor Replacement

Dear Abby: These pullies can be replaced although we have modified the main sheet to a set of blocks using 3/8 stainless ring bolts in place of the stock Mac arrangement. Access to the Startbord side can be made through the cockpit locker. Take out the aft access board then the chunks of foam blocks. Remember the order that the blocks go back in! Then after the locker is cleaned out you can crawl in. Be sure that you have help because it is a very confined space. The best way to changing the port side is to install a 6" circular port on the aft end of the cockpit port bench rear wall. These are faily cheap and once intalled it gives you access to the engine mounts and other aft and port side components. Do not try to crawl under the cockpit bottom. A good friend got stuck in there and had a very hard time getting out. Best Regards, Wilson

Will Try It

Wilson, Thanks for the tips. I was already up in there last weekend. The rear cleat was loose, so I got up in there as far as my arm can reach (I'm 6' and 200#) so it's a little hard for me to get very much further up there. The cleat was as far as my arm could reach to back up the nuts. I put in a fiberglass backing plate on that cleat, and I really don't care to have to get up in there again. Maybe my wife or one of my daughters could fit better than me.
