I'm going to take my M-25 out to an open space this weekend to test-rig it to make sure everything is there, and to get me more familiar with the rigging. I have down-loaded all the copies of manuals I can find on line, Roger Macgregor's sailing tips, looked at as many photos of different M-25's as I could find on the web, and I still cannot definitively figure out how the main sheet rigging works. It is described in the "manual" but what would be helpful are some detailed photos of how this rigging is set up. I believe I have the mast and boom vang figured out though, I would like to know if anyone else has set up halyard stays or cleats closer to the cockpit, rather than on the mast itself. Sure seems like it would make single-handing easier. If anyone could upload a few photos, I would be eternally grateful. If it's not possible to up-load here, I will give you my email address to send them to. Thanks, Colin

Found some photos need more

I searched the archives and found a few photos- close-ups of the port swivel locking cleat, double block on the boom, and the starboard pulley. I would like to see some wider-angle shots to figure this out. I have a new set up that came with the boat which has a double block, and another odd-shaped block. Best thing I guess would be for me to take photos of what I have and post it tomorrow, perhaps someone will recognize what I've got. The roller on the starboard pulley is shot on mine, so it looks like a trip to West Marine before I can properly rig it, unless anyone else has other suggestions. Also, there is a stainless steel eye mounted in the floor of my cockpit, about mid way between the stern and companionway. Any ideas what this would be for? Thanks, Colin

I need it too?

I need the same information? I put my boat in the water for the first time last week and made it work but I really need to see some pics of the proper way?

rigging thoughts

hey abby normal and gary. i have a 24 but the rigging should be the same from what i read in the manuals. i have moved my boom control lines from the tail end of the boom and the port and strbrd sides near the transom to clear up a mess of lines in the tiller area. have also installed blocks on the mast to route foresail and mainsail halyards to the cockpit. working well for me. the eybolt that abby has in the cockpit floor is probably for a setup similar to what i am running which will show in the photos. email me your email addresses to g.b.nickerson@shaw.ca and i will send you some photos tomorrow nite.

Still a week or two away

Gary, That's great you were able to get out this last weekend. We wound up going out on a buddy's Cal 25 on Sunday and narrowly avoided a thunderstorm that blew up pretty quick. I'm anxiously waiting to get mine on the water. I live in NE Oklahoma, it's been very, very hot and more is forecast for this weekend. I'm waiting for it to cool down some and I want to make sure I'm thoroughly familiar with the boat before I take it out. How were your impressions of the boat? Any advice you can impart? Thanks, Colin

1980 with companionway traveler

My 1980 25' has a companionway traveler and mid-boom sheeting that I presume was installed later. The old aft-corner rig looks like it wore out. Certainly makes things sail better without cluttering the companionway traffic too much.

Muchas "Garcias"!

Thank you all for the photos, that is starting to make more sense. I'm gathering from conversations with the previous owner that he never used the factory system with the cam cleat/roller, and pulley since he thought it had something to do with an auto-pilot. And judging by the roller being gone on the starboard pulley. I'm going to call him today to get the specifics on how he rigged his main sheet system. It seems from other photos I've found that there are many ways to modify the system. I'll get it figured out thanks to everyone else's help. That's why I'm doing a "dry run" on my rigging this weekend in a field or parking lot, instead of tying up a staging area at the lake for a few hours trying to make sense of things (while people snicker behind my back).)

Dear Abby

No one should be snickering, they've all been there once themselves. Consider they may not know much themeselves or they would offer real assistance :) Steve P.

Time for a traveler?

I use that system in the photo and it works ok but I'm looking to switch to a traveler instead for better DW control.

Where?

Where and how do you intend to mount your traveler, C.C.? I've been talking about installing one since I bought my boat, but haven't seen a solution that I like. The stock system certainly leaves a lot to be desired when sailing close.

Mainsheet figured out

I did a "dry-run" on Saturday and figured out the mainsheet. One of the previous two owners had installed a ring in the middle of the cock pit and installed a, um for lack of better description a U-clip on the bottom of the boom (there is a flat edge on either side of that piece with a 1/4" hole drilled through it, you stick a 1/4" bolt through the mast). There is another one of these toward the front of the boom for the vang. I took the boat out Sunday for my first sail with one of my buddies who has extensive sailing experience. It performed well close-hauled and not quite as well on a reach as the top of the sail hits the spreaders if you run it out too far. I'm guessing you would likely have those limitations with the way the spreaders are located on any Mac 25, regardless of the sheet system. I didn't find it to really be in the way, and my buddy thinks a traveller would be a good idea at some point, but he recommended that I learn to sail it with the present set up for now. I'll see if I can remember to shoot a photo of it in the coming days.
