I was recently asked if I lubricated my rudder post on my '92 First 310 to make the wheel turn more freely. I had never heard of doing that. Does anyone have expereince with this and if so, what do you use to lubricate it? If you have a First 310, how do you get to the rudder post to lubricate it?

Inspect and understand the rudder construction. Look for worn bushings, damaged quadrant stops, cracked or damaged rudder post attachment. Beyond that you lubricate the cables, gears, chains. Marine grease on the chain and gears, Boeshield T-9 works well on the cables. You don't want to put petroleum-based lubes on the plastic busihings.
