My owners manual says to follow the manufacturer's instructions, which I don't have. I have an Edson steering mechanism on a H-340. Any suggestions on what lubricant to use to lube the joints in the steering linkage? Thanks. Chris H.

Get an Edson Catalog

Chris, Edson details in their catalog the steps required for yearly maintenance. You will need to figure out which model steering that you have, but that should be fairly simple by visual inspection. If you are still in the dark, simply call Edson. I have found them and their 'sudden service' to be very helpful. Rich

Edson seconded.

When I ordered my Edson catalog from their web-site the form asked for my own boat model and year. When I received the catalog they had included separate detail for the exact unit that was installed on my 1979 H37C. How's that for service?! At any rate I just use oil from a squirt can. On the chain and sprockets, at the wheel shaft bearings, and at the turning block bearings. I also keep the cable oiled.

Greasing the steering system

For my 340 Edson suggests using part no 827 Teflon grease. The top rack and pinion gear and lower grease fittings should be done annually. Grease fittings are located in side the Down tube just below the Wheel Shaft. Ball joints and drag links need Teflon Grease also, annually. Just take caution not to OVER LUBRICATE. If you would like a copy of the Edson data sheet send a fax no. or email and I'll be happy to forward it to you. Hope this helps.
