Dear beneteau owners, I did drop the rudder on my 375 for repair and noticed that there is a small play between the rudder post and the lower metal ring.
Also, it looks like there is a kind of very thin layer of rubber coated on the lower metal ring..... Any tips or advice on this?
Regards

I have had my 1986 First 305 since 1988. I had to replace the lower rudder bearing a few years ago, I purchased the replacement from Beneteau USA in Marion. It is a nylon ( or Delrin?) bearing. The original bearing had broken off and disappeared.
We connocted a cradle to support the rudder from a plastic laundry basket and rope lacing strapped to the aft cleats. Then with me in the water, we lowered the rudder into the basket far enough to expose the top of the rudder post (underwater). I slid the new bearing over the post and then lifted the rudder back up into position.
All is well after several seasons. No play or sign of wear.
