On my Hunter 42 with the genoa out, I have quite limited forward vision which is uncomfortable to say the least in a crowded waterway! I want to find a camera to connect to my current model Ray E7D- the ray genuine cameras are just too expensive! There are so many IP66 rated wifi security cameras out of China now on DX.com but i wonder if anyone has gone down this path and had any actual experience?

Interesting idea. I hope you get some good responses. I've toyed with mounting a camera somewhere to keep an eye on my boat. e.g. storm damage, loose equipment etc.

Check with commercial boat captains who may already be using cameras in their boats. Some of the cheaper wifi cameras do not seem to maintain reliable connectivity so some degree of quality/price would be necessary. Hard wiring may allow the use of less expensive cameras. Let us know the result of your findings.

Try a hunters trail camera. Guessing they could be wired or may even be wireless. They are made for outdoor use. Only drawback is a camera only sees what it is pointed at. My sailing experiences are dynamic events that often happen and are seen in my peripheral vision. Perhaps the issue is limited vision while you are sitting at the helm. I am of the thought that sailing is an active sport and I tend to move about keeping my lookout for the zombies mindlessly motoring about.

Also have a E7D and just reread the Lighthouse 2 v17 doc, I did not see how to connect a WiFi Camera to the network... The only thing I saw was connecting an IP Camera to the SeaTalk Network. What am I missing since I agree that a IP66 rated camera would be great! -Jon
