Hi all,

I got a chance to use my low friction ring and it works well.

I did the same think for my spinnaker tweakers. The "good": light and easy to splice into the end of some class II line. The "bad", the spin sheet doesn't run a freely as I'd like or as it would/did with some harken blocks. When sheeting in, for example, the ring will follow the sheet along for a bit, them, as the angle increases, it will let then slide. Rigging that is adjusted while under load is not recommended.

The following is a good discussion of when to and not to use them: Sailing World - Low Friction Rings

Thanks for the idea. I wonder if these would be a good way to lower friction in a single-line reefing system. I hate the sharp angles on the clews that the line passes through, and the resulting friction in reefing. I was planning to add a small light-weight Dyneema mounted block, but was worried about the added weight particularly on the leech and the length not making a good reef. Thoughts?

Low friction rings with best with very high tech line, or even better de-covered dyneema cored line. Thinner is also better, as it gives a better 'turn ratio' round the ring.

All U Get.... I notice you have a small block at the base of your rig. Why not use a light weight block on the jib sheet also. What are the advantages of the ring?

I have used a Snatch Block that is heavy, noisy, and expensive compared to the ring. That little item is called a Shock, got it at WM. It makes a quick, smooth, point of attachment.

Makes sense,,, light and inexpensive. Any problems with the hitch knot with the slippery dyneema line?

I did a double and it held in light air. If it slips, I'll use a triple. I almost lost my snatch block in gusty winds when it opened unexpectedly. I don't think I'll cry as much if I lose this ring.
