What I'm doing

is rigging life netting between the life lines and the toe rail. I'm going to start with one 5 ft section and then either buy more or create my own (I'm guessing that I will need about 25 feet total). One of my best friends weaves hammock for a living and can get me the materials (not to mention, teach me how to weave a vertical hammock). I have already rigged a downhaul for the jib. It is not roller furling but it gives me a way to control dropping the jib and switching to a different headsail. I have a 75 H25 and think that the life nets will be a good addition to the "FOREDECK" (I'm not sure that area up front can be called a deck, legally). At the same time, I don't think that it will hurt the beauty of the boat (Yes, I agree, the "FOREDECK" lines are part of that beauty). It adds one more cleaning chore, as dirty nets are probably one of the ugliest things on a boat. They will have the added advantage of keeping bikini wearers from falling off the "FOREDECK.

Low Cost Furling

Check this link out to West Marine. You can use this just by hooking up to your Jib Halyard. Works pretty good and easy/cheap in comparison. The compromises are that your sail will take some abuse being under UV. Had a friend though that said his sail lasted 4 seasons even being out all the time. The other compromise is that you don't get a firm forestay to attach the jib to but that's the trade-off for this system. Check it out and happy sailing. browndog
