I have a 1982 Catalina 38 with Raymarine instruments. I frequently get a Low Batt signal on the autopilot. We have checked the wiring, batteries are good so we ponder and come to the experts for advice. Thanks in advance to all and fair winds to you. Larry Malmberg

Wiring too small?

"Too low battery" sounds like you're not getting enough downstream voltage to the AP. If your wiring carrying the power to the AP is too thin for the distance it needs to go (battery to AP, and back to battery), the voltage drop can be great enough that the AP would think the battery is discharged.

Or Corrosion

As noted above, maybe the wiring is too small or possibly there are some corroded terminals - either of which would inhibit the free flow of electrons (i.e. get enough juice to the equipment). If this is a new problem, then maybe corroded terminals may have cropped up. Another idea is that although Raymarine instruments boast of "Seatalk" connectivity - which in effect "daisy-chains" power to each instrument, they recommend that autopilots receive a dedicated power source.
