At WYC Thursday night usually has 110-140 boats out in 7 starts on 2 overlapping courses. It makes for busy times; after we round we head upwind with a bunch of Js coming down.

You do realize you are totally ruined for other boats with one that points like that? Everyone must have been itching to get back out on the water and race.
For fun, look up Roy Disney's "Pacific High" filmed in 1978 on the Newport Beach to Ensenada Mexico race. You'll laugh at how much has changed but stays the same. 550 boats that year. Down to 200 this year but starting to grow again. Just harder to get people out for overnighters and the bureaucracy on both sides of the border has intensified. One thing I have observed over the last twenty years is that the cruising classes have become much more competitive and sailed far better than before. Makes it harder to trophy but a lot more fun.

Yea, with her 6 foot keel and that tight inboard sheeting, she goes to wind like a witch if we keep her flat. Surprises other boats. The J24 coming down with the 'dazzle' WWI paint job had to heat up to stay over us. Our bowman asked if we should say or doing something. I told him the driver has an olympic gold medal in sailing.... I'm pretty sure there is not much we could tell him that he doesn't already know!

I'll keep my eye out for the vid. It looks interesting. I looked it up on amazon and there is a used VHS version for 45 bucks. I don't need to see it that bad!

Big fleets are great!

Funny but I found out a photographer caught this exact moment as we drove through the group of downwind J/24s. Looks closer here than it really is.
