We were out Friday, motoring in and lost most of our power. We were able to get the rest of the way in under power but the engine had no umph and seemed to bog every couple of minutes. We did find a leaking hose on the engine (water) but it was not over heating. Also, we had the engine pulled and overhauled this winter. We were thinking a fuel filter. Any thoughts? And where is the fuel filter if we need to replace it? Thanks

Fuel Filter

The fuel filter could be anywhere. And there could be more than one of them. Probably is. More info is needed, such as type of boat, which engine, etc. Then someone with a like boat can probably give you some info. I would also like to say shame on you for not knowing, and not having a spare filter on board, ready to install, and the ability to do same. Things happen on boats, as you have just found out, and without the basic knowledge you will find yourself up the proverbial creek sooner or later. I really don't want to sound crass, but if you are going to sail a boat, you really need to learn about that boat. As much as you can, as soon as you can.

engine bogging

I had a similar problem a few years ago after replacing the throttle cable. The nuts at the end of the cable worked themselves loose and the cable kept playing out.
