Yikes - that sucks! I've worried about this happening on my old boat.

I found an old note from somewhere that recommended Foss Foam in Florida. Supposably they have a mold already for it. Cost was about $1700 shipped in 2006.

This was also in there "Just make sure you let them know which rudder you have - they ended up sending me one w/ a shaft 2' too long (probably for the aft cabin model)."

I know this is too late for your lost rudder but: I have always secured a lanyard to my rudder just for that reason. I was in 16 foot seas and my rudder did come off the pintles even with a ring clip on but of course it was tied to my boat. Seas were so rough that I could not get it back on so pulled it aboard and powered back in port with my 10 hp outboard. Chief

I would think that you could make your own rudder replacement using plywood and fiberglass. Chief

I've been wondering about rebuilding my rudder. My boat is on the hard and while my restoration project continues in other areas, i've closely examined my rudder. The lower portion of the trailing edge has a 2-3 in crack which continues to ooze water/rust. It appears someone drilled holes all over each side to allow water to run out then filled the holes back in. I've been told that the rudders have a steel ribbing that is incased in a fiberglass laminate. If anyone has any information about how to rebuild these or possible laminate a new rudder i'd love to hear from you. Thanks!

I happen to have a spare 9.2C rudder actually. I thought it was bent but it turns out it wasn't.

Do you still need one?
