Peggie, I installed a new MSD this spring. I followed the directions and the installation went well. I hooked up all the hoses as per instructions and as per the old unit, but now, when I go to flush, the lift pump loses its prime and I have to pump like heck to get it back. Am I missing something?

Tell me exactlly what you did...

Especially whether you installed any vented loops and, if so, where you put them.

what I did

Basically, I took out the old unit (Sea Ward--Sea something, I can't remember)and bolted in the new unit (WC Head Mate)and all the existing fittings and hoses matched up with the old unit as per the instructions--discharge goes to tank, intake comes form sea cock. There is an existing vented loop but it is attached to the holding tank manual discharge pump which I have never used and plan to remove at some point. I also plan to replace hoses and install a vented loop as per your reccomendation, but I ran out of time and I didn't want to go farther until I figured out what the problem is. BTW, the head works fine in the "dry" mode.

Two questions:

If the pump is losing prime, air is getting in. Did you install a vented loop in the head intake? If so, where? If not... Does the head intake share a thru-hull with the sink drain? If the answer to both questions is no, you may have a defective toilet...Give W-C a call and see what they have to say.

no, and no

Since both answers are no, I'll call WC. Thanks anyway, Peggie.
