Loose Starboard Stern Cleat >>>on my 222

Looks like I'm coming up on re-caulking the through hull fittings on my '86 222-O

I found the bow starboard cleat to be loose as this is a cleat I use for docking. It was relatively easy to re bed and can get to the nuts inside the anchor locker in the bow. However now I see the Starboard Stern one is also loose.....

I am thinking that the easiest way to get to this baby,,, is to cut an access plate into the aft fuel tank lazerette to get to the nuts for the cleat. Has anyone been there done that? Look'n for ideas. Not sure nuts can be reached from the bunk by removing the plywood bulkhead there.. ????

Do that first, Chuck!

I had to remove the plywood bulkhead to install the cheek block shown in the picture, but I can't honestly tell you whether it's possible to reach the nuts and washers to your stern cleat. I would definitely remove the bulkhead and give it a try. It's possible that the bolts are long enough so that you can raise the cleat high enough to get it caulked without having to remove the nuts. The bulkhead is easy to remove. I don't see why you couldn't reach in there and hold the nuts with a wrench, while someone loosens the bolts for you.

Chuck, icut the access hole and put in the plate when I changed my outboard bracket. It was no problem at all. I put in a 6" when I did it.
