I took my mast down recently and noticed one of my spreaders was loose. Can anyone tell me how they are attached to the mast...I removed the cotter pin and tried to pull the spreader from the sleeve of the fitting.. is there a threaded pin running through the mast holding the fittings?? thanks

spreader mounts for the Oday 22

Yes, a threaded pin screwed into 2 aluminum fittings, one for each spreader. The spreaders fit over the fitting, held in place by corrosion, friction and the aforementioned cotter pins. The pin doesn't thread into or through the mast, it slips through an internal sleeve in the mast and screws to both fittings. The mast should be centered between the fittings, and the spreaders slid over and cotter pined in place, through the holes in the threaded pin. Don't forget to install the shroud tangs, as I did first time I stepped my mast. Don't try to push the spreaders up to change the rake or angle, you will break the threaded rod, mine failed about 2 miles offshore in Lake Erie, nearly costing me the rig.
