Loose sidestays

I have my "new" 26s, " Madrigal" in the water and love the way she sails. I noticed however that my side stays are rather loose. I have tightened them up by moving a notch down on the side but they still flap and are not tight at all. Other boats in the marina are much tighter. Should they be like guitar strings or loose string? Any advice would be welcome. Also my mast is slightly sloping back towards the stern and the bottom of the mast does not sit flush with the boat (16th" gap). It won't go any further with the pin in place, it is jammed in good and tight. If the mast were straight would it tighten my side stays. Could this be the problem?? Thanks for replies. Regards Phil

M26s rigging

This subject is much discussed in the trailer sailor .com site . look in archives ? rigging. What you do is cleat the Jib halyard to bow cleat. then undo the forestay. then let mast back by looseing jib halyard(mast back about a foot or two) Then you can adjust side stays( not proper name ?). Also foreaseier handling i have my back stay very loose. Fore stay should be very tight. Suggest pushing on retightened jib halyard with your foot while getting fore stay as tight as you can. there should be a rearward bend above the spreeder and forestay attach point. laees than 1 foot.

According to the manual they are supposed to be tight, yes, kind of like guitar strings. I am assuming that you do not have a copy of the manual. Give me your email address and I'll scan the manuals pages that deal with the rigging and mast.
