loose shrouds

RElying on my son to rig and launch the Hunter 19, I asked were the shrouds on both sides supposed to be so loose? He replied, "I don't know." Now, after several sails heeling WAY over, compared to similarly-sized boats I saw on the same point of sail, and difficulty controlling the boat in weather, I have come to the conclusion that the VERY loose shrouds contributed to the extreme heel. When asked, son said the loose shrouds would havbe the opposite effect - the boat would not heel over as much if shrouds are loose. Anyone know the real truth? Of course, next time I sail I will tighten them and find out. I thought the problem in controlling was due to fact centreboard is stuck. I thought was probably up position, but now I think stuck down as uphaul line on top barely passes through cleat. Learning through mistakes.
