tuning
A professional rigger or sailmaker should be able to tune your rig. However, you can get the basic rig set yourself.1st, get the mast in the middle of the boat. Take a Tape measure and attach it to your main halyard shackle. Adjust your halyard so the shackle is about a foot from the deck at the shroud base.now, loosen the lower shrouds. Then with the tape, measure to the base of both upper shrouds, adjust shrouds so that the distance to each shroud base from the masthead is virtually the same.Essentially, in a perfect world, your mast head should now be in the center of the boat. Now you can apply several turns,EQUALLY, to each of the upper shrouds, untill they are fairly taught. Now, Look up the sailtrack on the back of your mast, by placing your head against the mast and getting your eye as close to the mast as you can. For this, it is best to remove the mainsail,it will make things easier.By looking up the mast track, you should now be able to see which way the mast bends,to port or to starboard. Apply some turns to the lower shrouds until just the slack is removed, straight but not too tight. Now, repeat to eyeballing process, then apply another turn or two until the mast starts to straighten, adjust each lower shroud accordingly, until the mast is straight. These steps will get you going and will keep the mast from coming down.
