Loose footed main on H26?

I don't have the manual on my new H26 around, so I'll ask here. Is the main sail on the H26 supposed to be loose footed or should the boltrope be fed down the slot in the boom? I did the later, but while sailing today I noticed the first couple feet of the foot of the sail pulled out of the slot. Additionally, the slug on the clew makes me think that it should be loose footed. Guess I should have read the manual more closely when I was setting her up. Thanks Ron Mehringer H26 Hydro-Therapy

Not loose footed.

The main on my H26 has the boltrope of the foot in the boom. The slug at the clew is used as additional safety to prevent pullout due to the large roach. I do not know why your main has pulled out of the boom near the tack. you may have too large a shackle on the tack. If it continues to happen you will have to have the main corrected, more than likely a new boltrope. This could be another one of those shrinking boltrope problems, thanks to Doyle. Bob "Gravyboat"

bolt rop shrink

I have seen over the years bolt rope shrink on many sailmaker sails. Doyle is not alone. Ron, the suggestion about the main being corrected is a good one.l Crazy Dave
