Loose cleats

Both my stern and bow cleats have become loose enough so that I can move them slightly. They don't lift off the deck, but they slide a little bit. I assume the bolt holes on the fiberglass have enlarged, and that I will need to remove the bolts and use epoxy or something to tighten things up. Can anyone tell me if this is the right approach? Thanks.

Big washers

If they're loose, they'll leak (not to mention the whole safety issue). Here's my suggestion: Remove each cleat (might as well do all of them while you're at it). Is there any kind of bedding compound? If so, clean it all off. Now drill out each hole double it's actual size. Now tape the underside of each hole (inside the boat) and mix up a batch of West Systems and, using a syringe, squirt the epoxy in each hole. You may find that it wicks away into the coring. This is a good thing - it strengthens that area just that much more. One note of caution: if the coring is wet, you're gonna have to dry it out before using the epoxy. Now keep squirting the epoxy till the hole fills & it's not wicking anymore. Do this to each hole. When that dries, I suggest mixing another very small batch & adding filler to level out the holes. Now go back & drill out each hole with the correctly sized bit, use 3M 4200 (NOT 5200) for a bedding compound & reinstall each cleat using extra large washers (the largest you can find with the right size hole diameter). Make sure the nut's diameter isn't smaller than the washer's hole. This should do it. LaDonna
