Hello Salts,

1991 MkII with spit aft stay. I am looking for some basic rule-of-thumb measurements for mast tuning. Rake, tension, pre-bend (although, with non-swept spreaders, you can't)....

Any and all information would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

I here's a copy of the loose gauge numbers. I assume you have roller furling, so just tension the main backstay (above the split) for both forestay & backstay. Use the tensioning table for a starting point for tension.

On my 1980 Cat, it was difficult to get a rake in the mast. I tightened the forward lowers somewhat and slacked tension on the aft lowers to force a slight rake. I finished it off with the backstay tensioned abit more.

Your Catalina manual should give tension numbers, or one of the guys on this site might have that info. Remember the table shows a starting point tension only.

Remember to check your chainplates for any discoloration or cracks after. Also look to ensure the plates didn't pull up slightly from the deck as this will compromise your seal.
