Looks like she is a day sailor………..

Guys need a lot of help. My 85 hunter 27 has a 7hp Yanmar single diesel .
I recently posted that it could not get me back to home port in the south Padre Island wind and chop. It was suggested that I just clean the bottom and the prop… well I did..... and did a before and after time trial.
It only gave me A knot…..:cussing: I kept the engine floored and I only got 4.7 out of her. That’s not going to do it down here, going north to Corpus Christi is great run. But I’d never get her home ……
Can ya give me some options? Engine replacement? Mount a kicker?
Of course I need replacement that would work with trainy and current mounts. Is that too much to ask for?

Im broken hearted

4.7 knots is pretty good with that 7 hp engine. I could only get a hair over 5 knots on my 8 hp Renault on my '80 27. That being said, you may want talk to a prop shop and see if a new prop will help.

I feel your pain as I am in the same delema almost with my H-30.
I have actually gone backwards facing 30MPH winds and some seas with the yanmar YSM-12 over heating and struggling. Above advice is right on track regarding prop size. Could be that your engine isnt turning up the required RPMS to perform for you. Do you have a tach? and if so is the engine turnig 3000 under no load in the slip ?
What rpm's at cruise?

Regarding the repower, You are looking at abt $4 to $5 thousand for a new engine plus installation cost. Mine is a 10HP and replacing it with new yanmar 15HP is $5873.00 plus install.

I would go with the prop check and see waht the RPM range is under crusie.

Happy sailing.
